Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the clinical characteristics of indirect inguinal hernia in twin children, and to investigate the risk factors for hernia development.

Methods: From September 2012 to March 2016, 173 twin patients underwent laparoscopic herniorrhaphy for indirect inguinal hernia. This was a retrospective study, and analysis was performed on variables such as age, gender, birth weight, family history of inguinal hernia, gestational age, zygosity, past medical history and laterality

Results: In the analysis of concordance of hernia between twins, only zygosity shows a significant difference. Monozygotictwins were more common in the concordant group. In the analysis of zygosity, only the concordance shows any difference. The concordance rate was higher in monozygotic twins (61.9%) than in fraternal twins (38.1%), whereas the disconcordance rate was higher in fraternal twins (91.2%).

Conclusion: The probability of hernia occurrence in both twins is higher in monozygotic twins. Therefore, if one monozygotic twin presents an indirect inguinal hernia, it may be necessary to check for hernia in the other twin.
